Official Opening of Leek College Library, Staffordshire

The Library, known by staff and students as The Hub, was officially opened on 27 January 2012.  Local MP Karen Bradley cut the ribbon welcoming students, staff and guests to the morning ceremony.

The comprehensive remodelling and refurbishment has reconfigured unfit and outdated spaces to create a naturally lit open resources area whilst providing small nooks for private study.

During the opening a Video Book was played recording the students’ positive experiences of the The Hub. Student Martha Hermolle said: “[It's] a bright and happy space. I think the brightness of the room reflects on to the students and staff.”

Andy Hunt Leads Future Vision Project, Birmingham

Future Vision - a 10 week engineering and architecture project involving four Birmingham schools - led by Andy Hunt, has seen students develop designs for a library and theatre complex of the future. Taking inspiration from the Library of Birmingham the students have been working with Hunt Feneley, Carillion, and local engineering firms Thomasons and Stewart & Harris to develop their design ideas.

Andy Hunt said:

“Architecture and engineering are critical to society, the built environment influences all activities in our lives. These pupils have shown great enthusiasm throughout the project and shown an eagerness to be involved in how places are made. I hope some will become the next generation of Birmingham’s designers.”
